About DotNetFirebird Blog
Firebird SQL is a powerful open source database that can be easily used in .NET. I believe it has a big potential (it is full-featured, requires zero administration, can be embedded, etc.). However this potential has not been fully discovered by .NET developers who rely on Microsoft SQL Server heavily.
I am working with Firebird in .NET and this site is a side effect - I am going to note my experience here so it can be reused by the others. The more users Firebird has the easier my work will be so I have started this site for my own good ;-).
Comments:
I can understand why most Microsoft Visual C# developers choose Microsoft SQL Server over Firebird: Because it's there. I've downloaded Firebird and the .Net provider for it, bought the EMS utility so I can easily access/connect/text the installation, but I can't get Firebird .Net ADO Data Provider to show-up in Visual C# 2005 (Beta)'s "Tools -> Connect to Database | Providers" list. I'm searching for installation instructions, but nothing sticks out. The easiest solution is just to use Microsoft SQL Server... because it's there.
(Any help, anyone? ;)
You can use Oledb connection to connect to your Firebird database in VC# 2005. This is not Firebird problem. It's microsoft, why VS.NET don't allow add a new provider for the database view?
